i don’t want to be mean but too many people on here think that “hatewatching” has a much bigger effect on the success of bad media than it actually does, and i feel like people just don’t realize how different the standards of your average offline consumer actually is compared to you’re average online social media user.

people honestly think “velma” got the highest premiere of any hbomax show because too many people online were hatewatching and not because it’s a show based on a huge established brand backed by a famous celebrity that was heavily advertised, the only new show on hbo max that day, and made for people who watch crude adult animated cartoons which is a much larger demographic than people online seem to realize.

the reason disney live action remakes make alot of money isn’t because too many people were hatewatching, it’s because “person who likes disney movies but think they’d be better if they weren’t cartoon’s anymore” is a much larger demographic than people online seem to realize just like how “people who think it’s funny when a cartoon says fuck” is a much larger demographic.

Her name is Katalin Karikó. Hungarian. Daughter of a butcher. Her thesis work became the basis of the mRNA vaccine technology. Read the article here.

My favorite bits from the article include how Dr. Kariko celebrated the fact that the vaccines that used her mRNA research worked

“On Nov. 8, the first results of the Pfizer-BioNTech study came in, showing that the mRNA vaccine offered powerful immunity to the new virus. Dr. Kariko turned to her husband. “Oh, it works,” she said. “I thought so.”

To celebrate, she ate an entire box of Goobers chocolate-covered peanuts. By herself.”

I sincerely hope she is recognized more than she currently is.

She won a Nobel Prize! (02 October 2023)

May Sarton, Journal of a Solitude

[text: Life comes in clusters, clusters of solitude, then a cluster when there is hardly time to breathe.]

hedgehog-moss:

I was making chitchat with the woman who works at the plant nursery and I mentioned that two baby trees I bought the other day aren’t doing too well, their leaves are yellowing, maybe I’m watering them too much? what could be behind this phenomenon? and she looked like she was trying to find a gentle way to phrase it but then gave up and just said plainly, “Autumn.”

another social interaction that will come back to haunt me at 3am five years from now

we were so right when we invented the concept of friendship bracelets and wedding bands and the like. just matchy stuff in general. to feel this piece of jewelry on your skin and to fidget with it, a physical reminder of your connection with this other person who’s so important to you. to know they’re also wearing the other half of the pair, or group of 3 or more, because they love you too…
